On Saturday, August 15th 2015 at 1600hrs P.O. Michael Griffin #382 was traveling northbound on the Palisades Interstate Parkway near interchange 2 (Alpine NJ Section) when he observed a blue 2013 Acura in the right lane with tinted brake light covers and windows. P.O. Griffin proceeded to stop the vehicle just north of interchange 2 on the right shoulder.
Once stopped, P.O. Griffin approached the vehicle and observed two (2) male occupants. As he reached the passenger’s window he could detect a strong odor of burnt Marijuana emenate from inside the vehicle as he asked the operator for his documents. He asked the occupants to exit the vehicle as Officers Greg Kimbro #368, Martin Clancy #390, and Timothy Conboy #393 arrived on scene to assist.
A search of the passenger, later identified as Joel Bruno a 22 year old male from Newburg NY, revealed a switch blade knife. Mr. Bruno was placed into custody and detained at the scene. The operator, identified as Mr. Ivan Hernandez-Luis, a 22 year old male from Newburg NY, did not possess any contraband and provided consent to search the vehicle.
During a search of the Acura, P.O. Griffin located the following: 400 wax fold envelopes of suspected heroin, one clear plastic bag containing suspected marijuana and one pack of entourage cigar, 1 pack of zig-zag cigar, 1 pack bob marley cigarette papers, 1 toke token rolling papers and 1 raw rolling machine where were all located in a black plastic bag behind the driver seat on the floor. Neither occupant claimed ownership of the property and were therefore both charged.
Both occupants were transported to headquarters where they were later processed. The total wight for the 400 bags of heroin totaled 4.72oz with an estimated street value of $6,600.
