1-20-16 PREVENTED SUICIDE ATTEMPT

  • News

On Wednesday, January 20th 2016 at approximately 1330hrs the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department received a call from a female who stated that her husband, later determined to be a 56 year old male from Mount Kisco NY, was in the State Line Lookout contemplating suicide.  (The State Line Lookout is located along the northbound lanes of the Palisades Interstate Parkway in the Alpine NJ Section). Multiple officers responded and located the individual pacing vigorously by the cliff’s edge near Old Route 9-W.  Lt. Roman Galloza #345, Det. Jeffrey Kimbro #371, P.O. Jeffrey Lamboy #384, and P.O. Timothy Conboy #393 approached the subject while additional officers secured the site.

Upon approach, they engaged in dialogue in which the subject stated that he planned on jumping from the cliff due to personal troubles.  Officers established a relationship with the subject and a Hostage Negotiator was requested from the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department.  Officers continued conversation with the individual for approximately two (2) hours.  Due to the subject’s proximity to the cliff’s edge and physical barriers between he and the officers, physical intervention was not possible.

Officers continued to talk with the individual until he finally agreed to be transported to his wife who was waiting at the NJ Headquarters.  The subject was removed without incident and transported to Bergen Regional Medical Center for treatment.
