
1-31-15 CLIFF RECOVERY
On Saturday, January 31st 2015 at approximately 1100hrs, the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department received a notification from the Demarest NJ Police Department that a suicdal person was missing from their town and may be in the area of State Line Lookout. (The State Line Lookout is located along the northbound lanes of the Palisades Interstate Parkway in the Alpine NJ Section.) Officers Joseph Villone #378 and Michael Griffin #382 responded to the area and located a running, unoccupied white Lexus running in the middle of the access road to State Line Lookout. Further investigation revealed footprints leading from the car directly to the cliff’s edge.
A rappel response was dispatched and members from the East Bergen Rappel Team and Closter Rescue responded to the scene. Shortly thereafter the Piermont NY Fire Department Marine unit was also requested to assist. The victim was pronounce deceased and removed from the scene after several hours of crews operating in cold temperatures, moderate winds, and snow/ice conditions. The investigation has concluded with this agency and at this time there is no reason to believe that anyone other than the victim was involved.
The victim was later identified to be the missing person from Demarest NJ, a 57 year old white male from Demarest NJ.
