11-20-18 Officer Struck by Vehicle

On Tuesday, November 20th, 2018 at about 6:24PM a Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Officer was investigating a motor vehicle crash on the northbound Palisades Interstate Parkway in the Englewood Cliffs Section. While assisting those involved in the crash and directing traffic, Officer Martin Clancy was struck in the arm by the mirror of a passing vehicle.

Officer Clancy was able to stop the suspect’s vehicle on the northbound Palisades Interstate Parkway in the Englewood Cliffs Section. The operator of the vehicle, a 2007 Lexus, was placed under arrest without incident. The suspect was identified as Tyler Chung, a 21 year old male from Closter, NJ.

Mr. Chung was charged with:

  • 2C:12.1.1 Leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury
  • 411.1W Careless driving
  • 411.1X Failure to move over for emergency vehicle
  • 39:4-80 Failure to obey Officer’s directions
  • 39:4-129 Leaving the scene of an accident

Mr. Chung was processed and released with a mandatory court appearance.

Officer Clancy was transported to the hospital for serious bodily injury to his arm. The extent of the injury is unknown at this time.
