2-22-19 Uber Driver Assaulted

On February 22, 2019 at about 930 PM, an Uber driver, Mr. Anthony Delacruz Taveras, 21, of Haverstraw, NY, stopped his vehicle on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in the Englewood Cliffs Section. There he alerted a Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Officer that he had been assaulted by his fare, Mr. Joseph P. Coyle, 44, of Stony Point, NY. The Officer was already stopped on the shoulder conducting an unrelated traffic stop at the time. Mr. Delacruz Taveras stated that while he was traveling south on the Palisades Interstate Parkway, Mr. Coyle began striking him and tried to choke him with his seatbelt. Mr. Delacruz Taveras was evaluated by EMS and released from the scene. Mr. Coyle was arrested and charged with:

2C:12-1B(7) ( Aggravated Assault)

2C:12-1B(2)( Aggravated Assault W/Weapon)

2C:29-2A(3)( Resisting Arrest – 3RD Degree)

2C:18-3A( Criminal Trespass)

2C:29-2A( Resisting Arrest)

 

Mr. Coyle was later lodged in the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, NJ.
