8-10-16 SUPPORT OF ESGR
On Wednesday August 10th, 2016 Chief Michael J. Coppola #348 and Lt. Roman Galloza #345 participated on behalf of the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department in the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department ceremony recognizing the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). The ceremony was held at the Teaneck Armory in Teaneck NJ. Numerous agencies were in attendance as well as several political figures from the region. ESGR, is a Department of Defense program which was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee’s military commitment.
Currently, the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department has ten (10) members who have military background, two (2) of which are active duty reserves, and one (1) active duty guard. Of those one is currently deployed to Afghanistan. This makes up for 1/3 of the department’s manpower. Chief Coppola, along with Lt. Galloza and US Congressman Bill Pascrell Jr, signed a commitment to support the mission of the ESGR in an effort to support the active duty United States military personnel. That commitment proudly hangs in the entranceway of the NJ Headquarters announcing this support to all those who enter.
