
Death Investigation
On Wednesday, March 22nd 2017 at 2234hrs Officer Dana Eustace #389 conducted an area check of State Line Lookout and observed an unoccupied Subaru Forester parked in the parking lot several hours after closing. (The State Line Lookout is located in the Alpine NJ Section of the Palisades Interstate Park). P.O. Eustace along with P.O. Martin Clancy #390 conducted a foot check of the lookout to find the occupant(s). During their check they came upon an unattended woman’s hand bag on a rock wall located north of the main overlook along Old US Route 9W. As they investigated the area closer, they discovered an unconscious female laying below the rock wall who was visibly deceased. EMS and Paramedics were notified and pronounced the victim deceased a short time thereafter.
Detectives responded along with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department BCI Unit and Medical Examiner Investigator. The victim was positively identified at the scene as Kari Kaminski, Age 45 and residing in Cresskill New Jersey. At this time, there is not enough information to determine a cause of death or circumstances leading to hear death and this is still an active investigation. Therefore, further information surrounding this incident will be released when confirmed and available.
3-24-2017 Update:
At this time, Ms. Kaminski’s death is not considered a homicide however detectives are still working to determine a cause and circumstances. Further information to follow when confirmed.
5-22-2017 Update:
This investigation has concluded and it has been determined that Ms. Kaminksi died of exposure to the cold and acute intoxication. The case has been ruled accidental by the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office in conjunction with this agency.
