Emergency Helicopter Landing

On Thursday, September 28th, 2017 the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department requested the assistance of the Westchester County Police Department’s Aviation Unit to assist with a search for 2 missing people. The search involved a large wooded area near State Line Lookout in the Alpine NJ Section of the Palisades Interstate Park. During the search, at approximately 1017hrs the pilots radioed for assistance and advised that they were making an emergency landing inside State Line Lookout due to a smoke condition in the cockpit. The helicopter made hard landing, skidding approximately 30 feet before coming to rest. There were no injuries to the pilots. Alpine FD was requested and found no active fire. The helicopter involved is a Bell 407. The cause is under investigation and further inquiries are directed to the Westchester County Police Department.
