Motorcycle Pursuit with Fatality

On Tuesday May 9th, 2017 at 0002hrs P.O. Martin Clancy #390 was conducting RADAR enforcement southbound on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in the Alpine NJ Section. During that time he detected two (2) motorcycles operating at a high rate of speed. P.O. Clancy entered the highway and attempted to stop the motorcycles. P.O. Clancy continued for several miles, losing site of the motorcycle at various points in the pursuit. P.O. Kevin Condus #404 assisted as P.O. Clancy neared interchange 1 in the Englewood Cliffs NJ Section and the pursuit was terminated shortly thereafter. As the officers continued southbound, they came upon a motorcycle accident on the southbound Fletcher offramp in the Fort Lee NJ section. The motorcycle operator was pronounced deceased on the scene by Paramedics and detectives were notified. Subsequently, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Unit and Bergen County Sheriff’s Office BCI Unit were notified and responded. Fort Lee Police and Port Authority Police GWB Command assisted with traffic diversion. No further information is available and additional inquiries are directed to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
