NASBLA Accreditation
As provided by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators:
Lexington, KENTUCKY (04/5/2017) –
The Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department is being recognized for its accomplishment in becoming accredited by the NASBLA Boat Operations and Training (BOAT) Program. This accreditation recognizes the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department as having successfully implemented a National Standard of training, typing and credentialing.
The Boat Operations and Training (BOAT) Program, established by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) and recognized by its membership, the 50 United States and six territories, and by the United States Coast Guard as the National Standard of training, typing and credentialing, was created to ensure the readiness of law enforcement and emergency response boat crews throughout the country. Agencies who choose to adopt this National Standard assure their ability to conduct missions on our nation’s waterways safely and effectively, and operate seamlessly with their federal, state, county, tribal and local maritime partners.
In July 2015 the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department announced the re-creation of the Marine Operations Bureau. Originally created in 1908 with the start of the department’s history, the department has long been responsible for patrols in the Hudson River from Edgewater New Jersey into New York State. Responses have ranged from maritime only in nature to also land emergencies such as lost and injured hikers as well as rescues and recoveries from the cliff side.
The Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department will be formally recognized at the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) annual conference this September in Rapid City, South Dakota.
