PALISADES INTERSTATE PARKWAY POLICE CHOSEN BY MOTOROLA SOLUTIONS TO BETA TEST NEW PRODUCT
The Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department is proud to have been selected by Motorola Solutions to beta test their new product. The “SLIM”, short for Siren Light Interface Module is a product that allows any public safety agency to incorporate their Motorola APX Series radios with another manufacturer’s siren and light units. Traditionally, radios, lights, and sirens are installed separately and require the officer to operate separate control heads. This becomes cumbersome and unsafe during high-stress events such as a pursuit or critical response.
The new SLIM unit now allows an officer to manage a single control unit while operating the radio, siren, lights, PA, and other functions more safely and efficiently. Although an additional option that is purchased with the APX radio system, agencies can now reduce their cost of ownership over time. An agency can achieve this by reducing the amount of devices and wiring needed in the center console. There is also less to replace or repair since the siren and light controllers no longer exist.
The Palisades Interstate Parkway is in the process of converting from test modules to final production modules in the entire police fleet. A short video on the SLIM unit is on YouTube and its operation can be found below
