Pursuit and Arrest
On Tuesday, May 23rd 2017 at approximately 1438hrs the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department received a call for a vehicle operating at a high rate of speed and erratically southbound on the Palisades Interstate Parkway entering NJ. Sgt. Richard Dey #359 and P.O. Michael Collason #401 observed the vehicle traveling at 106mph southbound passing interchange 2 in the Alpine NJ Section. They entered traffic and began to stop the vehicle when it failed to pull over.
The fleeing vehicle, a silver Honda Accord with temporary NJ registration operated by a single male driver, continued to elude officers southbound on the Parkway for approximately 6 miles, at times using the grass shoulder to pass traffic. As the vehicle passed the Mobile Station, P.O. Anthony Burgos #398 entered the pursuit and assisted. As the vehicle neared the Hudson Terrace offramp it lost control and struck the right curb thus disabling the vehicle. The suspected exited the vehicle and fled across the highway into the woods. Officers Collason and Burgos began pursuing on foot and apprehended the subject on the east side of the Parkway in a wooded area.
The suspect, now identified as Ramon H. Markowski-Hernandez, a 20 year old male from Slate Hill NY, was placed into custody and transported to the NJ Headquarters for processing. It was determined that Mr. Markowski-Hernandez was arrested by this agency 2 weeks prior, held an active warrant from Vernon NJ, and the Honda Accord was unregistered and uninsured.
