
Recovered Body Investigation
On Tuesday, August 8th 2017 at approximately 0230hrs the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department received a report of a deceased body on the shore line of Hazards Ramp just south of the George Washington Bridge. (This is located in the Fort Lee NJ Section of the Palisades Interstate Park). Patrols responded and located a white male laying face down along the shore line just south of the GWB NJ Tower. Detectives and the BCI Unit of the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department were notified and responded. During the investigation, detectives were able to identify the victim as Mr. Douglas L. Grassey, a 61 year old male from Allendale NJ. At this time, the cause and manner of death as well as what led to the victim’s recovery location are still under investigation and further details will be released when available.
8-14-2017 UPDATE:
At this time the cause and manner of death involving Mr. Grassey is consistent with a departure from an elevated position such as a bridge or overpass. Currently investigators do not feel that the circumstances leading up to Mr. Grassey’s death are suspicious however the case is still open.
