The Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department is interested in hearing from individuals who are seeking a career in a non-municipal type of law enforcement. Individuals should display attention to detail, be loyal, ambitious, and passionate about this type of career.

Although police officers on the Palisades Interstate Parkway are responsible for general police patrol functions, there is a strong concentration in the following areas and individuals should apply accordingly:

Motor vehicle crash investigation; impaired driving enforcement; motor vehicle traffic enforcement; narcotic, financial, and weapon interdiction; public event management; marine patrol and enforcement; cliff/park area searches, rescues, and recoveries; bicycle patrol; and intelligence gathering.

Minimum mandatory requirements:

A resident of New Jersey or New York
Minimum of 18 years of age
United States Citizen
Valid High School Diploma (or GED)
Valid Driver’s License
No criminal history

Retirement/Pension:

Sworn Law Enforcement Officers with the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department participate in the New Jersey Police and Firemen’s Retirement System (PFRS). In certain cases, it may be necessary for a sworn member to participate in the police section of the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). Criteria which invokes PERS participation usually relates to the age of the employed individual.

Non-sworn members of the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department participate in the New Jersey Public Employees Retirement System (PERS).
