
Rescue of Man Falling From Cliff
On Thursday, November 1, 2018 at about 11:19 PM the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department dispatched officers in response to a reported fall from the cliff. Officers met with witnesses who were in phone contact with the victim. The witnesses led the responding officers to a wooded area in the Fort Lee Section of the Palisades Interstate Park. Officers were able to locate and make contact with the victim who was injured but alert and conscious. The victim was trapped on a ledge about 30 feet above Henry Hudson Drive. (Note: Henry Hudson Drive runs through the Palisades Interstate Park below the cliffs) The following agencies were requested to assist: Fort Lee Fire Department, Fort Lee Ambulance Corps, East Bergen Rappel Team and Englewood Hospital EMS.
Rescue crews were able to access the victim from the road and provide medical assistance before removing him from the ledge. He was transported to Hackensack Hospital for treatment. Investigation into how the victim came to fall from the cliff is ongoing. The nature and extent of his injuries have not yet been made available to this agency.
The victim has been identified as Mr. Erick Sanes, a 23 year old male from New York, New York.
