Search for Missing Persons

  • News

On Wednesday, September 27th, 2017 the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department received a call from 2 hikers reporting that they were lost in the woods. They departed State Line Lookout and no longer knew their location. During the call the cell phone battery died and patrol officers began searching the area. With assistance from PIP Marine 4, thermal imaging, and NYPD Aviation, crews searched the area and trails of State Line Lookout with negative results.

At 0030hrs (9-28-17) crews discontinued the search for safety reasons due to darkness and terrain. At 0700hrs additional patrols including Marine 4 and Westchester County Police Department Aviation resumed the search. Later, Bergen County Sheriff and Westchester County Police K-9 units joined the search. At approximately 1215hrs a hiker approached the command post in State Line Lookout and advised that they located a missing person on the trail leading up the side of the cliff south of Woman’s Federation Monument. Patrols confirmed it was one of the two persons from the evening. Additional patrols were sent to the location of the second person and assisted them to the command post as well. Both missing parties were evaluated by EMS and refused aid. Family members were on scene and transported the persons home.

Missing were Mr. Sin Kim and Mrs. Jeung Kim (Age 75) both of Harrington Park New Jersey. It was later determined that they had gotten lost on the lower trails and slept on the cliff side until morning where they were not visible due to heavy tree coverage.
